Guests who attended the IATC, got to choose between three exciting cultural tour options with either the Membertou, Eskasoni or Wagmatcook Nation as their host. Alternatively, guests had the option of enjoying a “Mi’kmaq Legends” performance on site in Membertou!
Attendees experienced heritage with a round dance followed by storytelling and a traditional Mi’kmaq ceremony at Membertou Heritage Park.
The cultural experience at Eskasoni Cultural Journeys included a lantern tour of Goat Island, smudging ceremony in an authentic teepee warmed by a fire, storytelling, basket making and more.
Highlights of the Wagmatcook Culture & Heritage Centre experience were a traditional smudging ceremony, authentic cultural performances, and hands-on experiences. Kojua dancing, playing waltes, drumming, basket Making, and beadwork inspired the soul.
A PEI Mi’kmaq Tourism showcase featuring a performance by Atlantic Canada’s only Aboriginal theatre troupe, Mi’kmaq Legends, Mi’kmaq artisans and local PEI foods including Malpeque Bay Oysters & Smoked Mackerel were enjoyed by lucky conference guests.
